During the course of his career with JMI, John Church was regularly called upon to take part in negotiations and close deals that would prove favorable to the company and its clients. This is not always the easiest of tasks, particularly if the negotiation process has been difficult, so consider all of the following tips if you want to stand the best chance of sealing a deal in your favor.
Communicate Clearly
If you are unable to speak clearly, you are going to find that few people have confidence in the words that come out of your mouth. Mumbling or stumbling over your words can lead to questions being raised about their validity, so make sure you practice your communication skills in any way that you can to ensure what you say is coming across clearly.
Always Have A Pen
So the contract is on the table and everything has been agreed up the point where the client is waiting to sign. You reach into your pocket and produce nothing. Not having a pen available at all times isn’t a disaster, but it can make you seem a little unprofessional if your client knows you were heading into the negotiations with the intention of closing a deal, but don’t even have a pen on hand.
Remain Positive
Regardless of how the client responds to your attempts to close the deal, John Church JMI recommends staying positive at all times. By keeping a positive attitude, he found that some of the clients JMI may have missed out on end up coming around and accepting a deal at a later date.
